SCOPE OF WORK

The acoustical modeling of site noise mitigation and the supply and install of three Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs) exhaust stacks complete with silencers for this 885 MW gas-fired power plant.

ACOUSTICAL REQUIREMENTS

The centerline of the Unit 2 exhaust stack served as the target with levels of 41 dBA at 1250 ft. (381 m) and 33 dBA at 2700 ft. (823 m).

NOISE SOURCES

  • Three General Electric Frame 7FA gas turbines
  • One General Electric steam turbine
  • Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs)
  • Cooling tower fans
  • Main steam stop valves

SILENCING SOLUTIONS

Exhaust silencers were provided for each stack to meet the far field sound pressure level. The exhaust stacks measured 141 ft. (43 m) high and 18 ft. (5.5 m) in diameter. The baffles measured approximately 14 ft. (4.3 m).

UNIQUE PROJECT HURDLES

This was an extremely high profile project with active interest within the community. The client was committed to maintaining good community relations and developing the project in an environmentally responsible manner. Hurricane Isabel caused a scheduling challenging for INNOVA when it blew through the area.

RESULTS

INNOVA met all required acoustical targets.
