PROJECT DESCRIPTION

INNOVA was contracted by two separate companies to provide exhaust systems for components of Westar Energy’s Emporia Energy Center.

The site was a 610 MW simple-cycle, natural gas-fired peaking plant, that is intended to operate during the customer’s highest power demand conditions, primarily on hot summer days.

The exhaust systems for three GE Frame 7FA Combustion Turbines and four GE LM6000 Combustion Turbines were designed to handle the highly cyclic operating environment expected for peaking service. The units were specified to handle two cycles per day for 30 years.

SCOPE OF WORK

GE Frame 7FA:

  • INNOVA provided Overland Contracting with the design and supply of three complete 75’ exhaust systems including Higgott-KaneTM silencing, expansion joints, transitions, base modules, inlet breaching sections, silencers, and stacks.

GE LM6000:

  • INNOVA provided GE with the design and supply of four complete 60’ exhaust systems including Higgott-KaneTM silencing, expansion joints, transitions, base modules, inlet breeching sections silencers and stacks. 

ACOUSTICAL REQUIREMENTS

GE Frame 7FA:

  • 63 dBA at 400 ft. from each exhaust stack
  • 85 dBA at 3 ft. from each stack, 5 ft. above grade

GE LM6000:

  • 59 dBA at 400 ft. from each exhaust stack
  • 85 dBA at 3 ft. from each stack, 5 ft. above grade
