PROJECT DESCRIPTION

INNOVA was selected by Dominion Transmission to complete an acoustical retrofit of the Crayne Compressor Station in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.

SCOPE OF WORK

INNOVA’s scope of work for the existing compressor station (48 ft x 72 ft x 30 ft) included;

  • One (1) 13ft x 14 ft. equipment door
  • Four (4) main doors
  • Four (4) door canopies
  • Two (2) upper wall exhaust silencers
  • Three (3) wall silencers and fans
  • New acoustic north wall
  • Acoustical layers added to east, south and west walls
  • 5-ton electric crane hoist for the existing crane

Alterations to the central frame to facilitate the inclusion of an equipment door in the center of the north wall were also made. New material was installed over existing cladding on east, south and west walls. 

NOISE SOURCES

Adding two new Solar 60 turbo-compressor units required noise reduction to meet Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) noise level guidelines.

A maximum daytime/nighttime 55 decibels (A-weighted), at 650 ft East-South-East of the station

SILENCING SOLUTIONS

INNOVA used its proprietary Balanced Design Approach™ method to create the perfect balance between; time, cost and noise control. By utilizing silencers, acoustical walls and barriers, low noise fans, lagging, acoustical doors and more to give the Client the most efficient and cost effective power plant possible.

UNIQUE PROJECT HURDLES

INNOVA’s unique approach and comprehensive services allowed the client to avoid the construction of a separate “stand alone” compressor building, which they had considered to be their only option.
