Structural Design Engineer – Environmental Solutions

LOCATION: Cambridge, ON or Tulsa, OK

REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager, GT Exhaust Systems

Position Overview:

The Structural Design Engineer provides technical support and carries out the structural design and analysis of project components. The Structural Design Engineer is responsible for the estimating-proposal-design-fabrication-delivery product lifecycle, and oversees structural consultants and suppliers, as directed by the Manager. A majority of the design tasks are focused on the structural design of large ducted systems for industrial gas turbine applications (air & gas handling, steel stacks, ducts and support structure). Understanding of operating requirements for Simple/Combined Cycle/Cogen and Exhaust/Intake systems is desired.

Reporting Structure:

The Structural Design Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager, GT Exhaust Systems.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Establish product design requirements from client drawings and specifications;
  • Perform structural calculations for projects to ensure design is structurally adequate and it meets customer specifications and industry codes and standards;
  • Coordinate, perform and check calculations required to substantiate the product design;
  • Interface with Project Engineers for design reviews, customer communication, responding to technical design questions, checking designs for accuracy and constructability and providing engineering support to fabricators and constructors;
  • Evaluate and approve shop changes to ensure the changes comply with original design and customer specifications;
  • Review and investigate field issues and provide corrective action to resolve field problems;
  • Conduct on-site inspections and troubleshooting investigations as required;
  • Support the estimating, sales and proposals teams by preparing preliminary designs, technical write-ups and detailed cost estimates for bought-out components;
  • For retrofit projects: evaluate existing systems, incorporate new designs to meet requirements while minimizing additional equipment;
  • Review internal drawings that have a customer or vendor interface;
  • Review and implement all standard Engineering Specifications as applicable to the product;
  • Provide technical input into operating and maintenance manuals;
  • Lead continuous improvement projects for cost reduction and quality improvement of products;
  • Work with other Engineering team members to examine methods and strategies to improve both product and process;
  • Other Duties as Assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • University Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering;
  • A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of structural design experience in large stiffened steel plate structures, including stacks and ducts, round and rectangular, and their support structures;
  • (Eligible for) Professional Engineer registration in USA or at least one province or territory of Canada, preferably Alberta and/or Ontario;
  • Proficiency in structural steel design and analysis using STAAD, Mathcad, spreadsheet-based calculations and hand calculations, including analysis of components subject to elevated temperature cyclic service and fatigue analysis;
  • Awareness of FEA and CFD analysis techniques;
  • Knowledge of ASCE, IBC, UBC and National Building Code of Canada;
  • Knowledge of AISC 360, AISC 341, CSA S16 and AISI S100;
  • Codes/standards knowledge in other jurisdictions is a highly valued asset but not essential;
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills, using MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills;
  • Proven ability to mentally visualize design concepts, and sketch-out designs for other team members to follow;
  • Ability to adapt to changing customer profiles and work under pressure;
  • The ability to lead large or small projects is an asset;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively in a project team environment where team members are spread across multiple office locations;

Electrical Designer - Environmental Solutions

LOCATION: Cambridge, ON or Tulsa, OK

REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager, GT Intake Systems

Position Overview:

The Electrical Designer is responsible for designing complete electrical systems. They will interface with Project Engineers and Electrical Engineers for design reviews, customer communication, responding to technical design questions, checking designs for accuracy and constructability and providing engineering support to fabricators. Main areas of focus are applied to gas turbine inlet systems, gas turbine exhaust systems and power plant auxiliary systems.

Reporting Structure:

The Electrical Designer reports to the Engineering Manager, GT Intake Systems.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Establish the electrical requirements from client drawings and specifications;
  • Follows electrical design standards and procedures;
  • Prepare detailed drawing packages, complete with bills of material, for electrical scope of projects (electrical layouts, schematics, wiring and junction boxes) in accordance with project requirements
  • Work from sketches, customer specifications and general instructions from Project Engineers to create and update Electrical Drawings
  • Ensure design details comply with relevant codes, standards, regulations and procedures;
  • Review component/material cut sheets and related vendor documents for project specification compliance;
  • Communicate with engineering, project management and fabricators to ensure designs meet customer requirements
  • Coordinate design work with other disciplines and other project team members;
  • Uphold the company code of ethics;
  • Carry out peer reviews of associates and sub-consultant’s work;
  • Stay alert for project scope change potential, liaising with the Project Engineer to handle these situations when they arise.
  • Facilitate a prompt and accurate response to fabricators and project site team requests for engineering design support during fabrication and construction.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Design Technologist Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products
  • 3 to 5 Years of experience in AutoCAD and Inventor
  • Working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC), Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) for electrical equipment and installations.

Director of Project Management – Environmental Solutions

LOCATION: Cambridge, ON or Tulsa, OK

REPORTS TO: General Manager, Environmental Solutions North America

Position Overview:

The Director of Project Management - Environmental Solutions provides leadership and management oversight of all domestic and international projects by monitoring and following projects from inception through field warranty while ensuring adherence to contractual requirements and required codes and standards.  Managing customer communications, ensuring project profitability and schedules are key responsibilities of this position.  The Director of Project Management – Environmental Solutions will ensure oversight that all projects are completed “on-time” and “on-budget” and will take preemptive and corrective actions to ensure cost, time and quality objectives are met, and will be responsible for all project delivery.There is a requirement for business travel to Innova’s offices located in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Structure:

The Director of Project Management – Environmental Solutions will report directly to the General Manager, Environmental Solutions North America.  The position will have a team of approximately 10 employees comprised of Project Managers, Project Coordinator/Project Scheduler, Document Control, and Construction Project Manager. 

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Adapt to dynamic stakeholder relationships; internal and external, optimizing the use of time and resources and handle a portfolio of projects simultaneously.
  • Full accountability for the technical and commercial deliverables for the Project Portfolio.
  • Ensure the project management model with the organization is based on best practice, encourages knowledge sharing, and focused on successful project execution.
  • Continually improve our project-related processes and execution models to meet our customers’ contractual expectations, improve our financial results and minimize risks.
  • Lead project reviews to drive areas of improvement for products and procedure following standard process.

Application Engineer – Environmental Solutions

LOCATION: Cambridge, ON

REPORTS TO: Director, Business Development and Proposals

Position Overview:

Innova Global has an opening for an Application Engineer based in our Cambridge, Ontario office. The Application Engineer performs technical proposal development of assigned products and services for Innova Global environmental systems, primarily gas turbine auxiliary products. This is a position combining technical specification review, preliminary design, estimating and proposal development. For assigned bids and products, the Application Engineer will perform full client specification review, followed by conceptual acoustical/mechanical/structural design coordinating with internal and external resources. The Application Engineer also coordinates, and when Estimating resources advise, performs bill-of-material development and cost estimating, followed by preparation of the technical proposal.

The Application Engineer is responsible for identifying all technical risks and presenting to the Business Development Manager / Bid Leader, while also assisting in developing risk mitigation strategies.

Reporting Structure:

The Application Engineer will report to the Director, Business Development and Proposals based in our Cambridge, Ontario office.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Provide input to the assigned BD Manager / Bid Leader for development of specific bid and product strategies / technical risk mitigations;
  • Perform full technical specification review for assigned bid opportunities and products, and clearly identify all technical risks, exception and clarifications;
  • Review and analyze customer documents, requests for quotes, equipment, product designs to ensure concept is optimized and effective;
  • Perform and coordinate conceptual equipment acoustical/mechanical/structural design utilizing internal and external resources;
  • Coordinate preparation and/or prepare proposal drawings;
  • Coordinate and/or prepare preliminary bill-of-materials, sub-vendor RFQ’s;
  • Coordinate with estimating team and/or perform sub-vendor price reviews and/or negotiations for specific opportunities;
  • Prepare detailed/accurate costing for quotes by individually analyzing each aspect of the project (compare to previous similar projects);
  • Present quotes both internally and externally to explain concept and validate budget;
  • Prepare technical proposals, along with identifying technical risks and developing risk mitigation measures;
  • Attend project kick-offs and concept reviews to provide detailed explanation of budget/scope;
  • Keep up-to-date with Innova and industry design standards, state-of-the-art product knowledge;
  • Travel to client pre-bid meetings (as required).

Education and Experience Requirements:

Coordinator, Quality Assurance

LOCATION: Cambridge, ON or Tulsa, OK

REPORTS TO: ​Director, Quality Assurance

Position Overview:

Innova Global has an opening for a Coordinator, Quality Assurance based in our Cambridge, Ontario or Tulsa, Oklahoma office. This role is responsible for providing support to Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing, Marketing and Field Service relating to Quality Assurance/Control functions.

Reporting Structure:

The Coordinator, Quality Assurance will report to the Director, Quality Assurance based in our Tulsa, OK office.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the maintenance of the company’s Non-conformance & Corrective Action System. Assists with root cause and corrective action activities;
  • Assists with development, collection and evaluation of performance metrics;
  • Assists with the maintenance of the company’s ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and conducts internal audits;
  • Assists with evaluations of suppliers, fabricators and sub-fabricators; responsible for supplier ScoreCard development and maintenance;
  • Assembles and monitors compliance records to ensure product compliance with governmental regulations;
  • Collects, maintains and reviews quality records submitted by suppliers, fabricators and sub-fabricators including paint records, welding records, and dimensional inspection records;
  • Assists with development of quality standards and procedures;
  • Assists with development of test plans for project fabrication;
  • Reviews / audits completed and in-process projects, assists in development of Lessons Learned;
  • Audits packaging specification program to reduce shipping damages and maintain conformance to customer requirements;
  • Assist suppliers, fabricators, sub-fabricators, local supplier quality managers, project managers, and customers with root cause corrective action and other quality related tasks;
  • Collect voice of the customer data and troubleshoot quality complaints or problems, and recommend and/or implement process improvements;
  • Complete Lean Six Sigma projects as assigned;
  • Assists with flow down of customer specifications;
  • Support quarterly warranty forecast report and performs warranty analysis in support of cost recovery negotiations with customers and vendors.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or related technical field is preferred;
  • Internship or one to three years of quality-related experience that includes FMEA and CAPA experience.

Technical Skills (required):

  • Proficient experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) SharePoint, and data analysis;
